Silvia Fiddes Ortiz Perea is an educator based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, with a focus on supporting English as an Additional Language (EAL) students. She has been involved in various initiatives to enhance EAL education, including participating in seminars, conferences and webinars aimed at sharing best practices and research. Silvia has been working in this field for over twenty-four years.
One of her notable contributions is a presentation on using music to enhance second language acquisition, in which she emphasises how musical activities can support language learning from an early age. Her work is recognized for its innovative approach and commitment to inclusive education.
In addition to her professional endeavours, Silvia is raising her bilingual family, which includes her two children, Seileach and Macleod, along with her husband, Eoghain.
Silvia has studied at various universities, including those in Granada, Nottingham, and Delaware in the USA. She also completed her postgraduate degree in Bilingualism at Strathclyde University in Glasgow. Silvia loves travelling, experiencing new cultures, and discovering new places. Her journeys have taken her to Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Spain, Greece, Germany, Italy, England, Ireland, Turkey, the Netherlands, Malaysia, New Zealand, and her beloved Scotland, as well as a myriad of other destinations still on her bucket list.
She is deeply committed to her community and always strives to leave her village a better place. Silvia managed a playpark improvement project that lasted five years and successfully raised over £100,000. In addition to this, she serves as the Chair of the Parent Council at her children’s school, continually fundraising to enhance the students’ educational experience. Silvia is also involved in various other organisations and projects, including SATEAL, Cairngorms National Park, and Lumphanan Hall management.
Whenever she has free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, going wild camping with her family in their campervan, attending musical festivals and concerts, or getting lost in a yoga retreat, swimming pool, or on a trail run.
