Our Story

Background

Bilingual Family is a registered charity founded on 8th of August 2024. Our headquarters are in Scotland and our founding members are former Ambassadors for the successful Erasmus+ Project PEaCH which ran 2019-2021.

PEaCH stood for Preserving and promoting Europe’s cultural and linguistic heritage through empowerment of bilingual children and families, and the PEaCH Project partners were University of Ghent in Belgium under the lead of Prof. Dr. Catherine Bouko (project lead), PMF Research in Italy (part of JO Group) and Multilingual Parenting Ab in Finland.

PEaCH produced two guides on raising bilingual children, one for parents and another for educators, as well as videos, and other support materials – all of which can now be found on our website and are free for everyone to use.

After the project end, Rita Rosenback (owner of Multilingual Parenting Ab) picked up the baton and together with some active PEaCH Ambassadors started to plan a continuation. It took a few years to get off the ground, but in early 2024 the decision was made to continue as a charity with a world-wide remit to offer support for parents and carers of bilingual children, as well as for professionals who support multilingual families.

While the PEaCH project focused on the countries and languages of the EU and children up to 12 years of age, Bilingual Family goes global and extends this remit to all countries and languages across the world and also includes teenagers (13- to 18-year-olds).
